1-Cambodian Health Promotion Project,
"Promoting health through education.”
In this program, participants learn how to
improve communication with their doctor, learn
about illnesses, particularly those diseases
common in the Cambodian community and learn how
to treat and prevent them. The emphasis of the
Cambodian Health Promotion Project is creating a
healthy lifestyle.
Our 9-week program of classes allows
participants to learn about health issues in an
informal, fun atmosphere. We encourage
participants to ask questions and suggest topics
to explore. For many Cambodians living in
America, dealing with health care issues can be
a very stressful experience. One of the goals of
this program is to work with Cambodian Americans
and their health care providers to develop
culturally sensitive methods of dealing with
health problems.
Transportation is available for those who
need rides to and from class.
Classes host special guest speakers
knowledgeable about exercise, food and diseases
such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease,
cholesterol, high blood pressure, family
problems, adjustment issues, sadness and other
emotions frequently felt by survivors of the
Cambodian Killing Fields.

4- Elderly Assistance Program
Provide the Cambodian American Community
with cultural sensitive and linguistically
appropriate services to assist Cambodian seniors
who live in Lowell.
This program seeks to act as a bridge,
informing the Cambodian American community of
existing services as well as collaborating with
service providers to develop new models of care
for our Elders. For many Cambodian American
elders, dealing with health issues can be
stressful, especially when the elders lack a
traditional family support structure. One of the
principal goals of the Elder Services program is
to work with elders and their health care
providers to develop a culturally sensitive
method of treating and caring for the Cambodian
population.
The Elderly Assistance Program offers to
the Cambodian-American Elders (60 and over) the
following services:
- Language assistance and translation
